Dr. Shenghui Chen's research focuses on thin-film solar cells, nano-optical thin films, multilayer optical thin films, DWDM optical filters, and the application and design of related optoelectronic components. Recent research achievements include:
1. Thin-film solar cell research includes: silicon thin-film solar cell process development, CIGS thin-film solar cells, and solar cell measurement technology.

The Nonlinear Integrated Laser Optics Laboratory is dedicated to developing a variety of novel multifunctional laser components and systems by combining advanced technologies in nonlinear optics, laser optics, and integrated optics. These capabilities include laser generation, entangled photon pair generation, wavelength conversion and modulation, optical amplification, modulation, switching, multiplexing, spectrum narrowing, and manipulation, and are key technologies for realizing advanced integrated optical circuits (IOCs).

表面電漿子積體光學:研究以次波波導與混合表面電漿波導為基礎設計具創新性之奈米光路被動元件,並同時以嚴格之電磁理論分析探討元件之物理機制。
奈米金屬結構光電物理與元件:此領域研究以金屬與介質或氧化物半導體材料為基礎之光電轉換元件。主要之研究方向為結合此類元件之電磁輻射吸收與金屬內部光輻射熱電子之能量機率與空間分布,試圖結合金屬內部光輻射與非輻射之電漿能量衰減,發展新穎之光電轉換元件。涵蓋金屬內部光輻射之相關理論計算、光電轉換元件設計、三維電磁模擬、奈米製程與光電轉換量測。
奈米光學:本研究方向係探討不同晶格系統之介電質於奈米尺度下之光學非均向(optical anisotropy)特性。藉由計算有限個數,並具周期性排列之原子於外加電場作用下,建構極化(polarizing)與去極化因子(depolarizing factor)於介電係數張量之理論,以了解並預測介電質於奈米尺度下可能產生之均向、非均向、光學雙折射等之特性。

RESEARCH INTERESTS:
Surface plasmon integrated optics: Research on the design of innovative nano-optical passive components based on sub-wave waveguides and hybrid surface plasmon waveguides, and at the same time explore the physical mechanisms of the components with rigorous electromagnetic theory analysis. Nanometal structure optoelectronic physics and devices: This field studies optoelectronic conversion devices based on metals and dielectric or oxide semiconductor materials. The main research direction is to combine the electromagnetic radiation absorption of such devices with the energy probability and spatial distribution of photo-radiated hot electrons inside metals, and try to combine photo-radiation inside metals with non-radiative plasma energy attenuation to develop novel photo-electric conversion devices. It covers relevant theoretical calculations of photo-radiation inside metals, photo-electric conversion device design, three-dimensional electromagnetic simulation, nano-processing and photo-electric conversion measurement. Nano-optics: This research direction explores the optical anisotropy characteristics of dielectrics in different lattice systems at the nanoscale. By calculating the polarizing and depolarizing factors in the dielectric constant tensor for a finite number of periodically arranged atoms under an applied electric field, the paper aims to understand and predict the potential properties of dielectrics at the nanoscale, such as isotropic, anisotropic, and optical birefringence.

This research examines the phenomena of human color vision and its related applications. Building on existing color science, it further explores research topics including color measurement, color mixing analysis and optimization, color management, LED color control, LED drivers, and color-related specifications and standards. Key application platforms currently include lighting, displays, and mixed reality, providing color-related optimization solutions.
Micro-Opto-Electro-Mechanical Systems:
Research and develop various integrated miniaturized biochemical detection chips. Combining micro/nano-optical components with micro-oepto-electro-mechanical systems (MOMS) technology, this research integrates key biochemical detection processes onto a single microchip, providing rapid detection capabilities with both high throughput and high sensitivity. Core technologies include micro-optical detection elements, micro-sensing technology, and real-time monitoring systems for biochemical reactions.

RESEARCH INTERESTS:
Our laboratory's research focuses on manipulating the complex resonance, polarization, and frequency characteristics of electromagnetic waves using nanometer- and micrometer-wavelength metal and dielectric structures to modulate the optical, electrical, and thermal properties of materials. We primarily focus on the optoelectronic applications of nanometer- and micrometer-wavelength structures.
Current research topics are as follows:
1. Applications of nanometer- and micrometer-optical systems in imaging, such as under-display displays, light-field cameras, and multifunctional spectroscopic ellipsometers.
2. Meta-optical system fabrication technologies (electron beam lithography, CMOS-compatible metasurface fabrication technologies, etc.).

RESEARCH INTERESTS:
Perovskite Photonic Device Physics: This field focuses on investigating the operating principles of optoelectronic devices based on perovskite thin films. Through device fabrication and measurement and analysis of their optoelectronic properties, the field aims to enhance the practical application of perovskite photonic devices.
Numerical Simulation of Plasmonic Devices: Using numerical electromagnetic wave methods, the transmission and resonance characteristics of surface plasmon polaritons in various structures are studied, with the application of these unique optical properties in integrated optics, solar cells, light-emitting diodes, and sensors.
Spectroscopic Measurement and Analysis: By integrating various spectroscopic techniques into a single microscope system, linear and nonlinear spectra of materials are measured, including transmission spectroscopy, reflectance spectroscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy, Raman scattering spectroscopy, two-photon fluorescence spectroscopy, and frequency double generation spectroscopy. Spectral characteristics are analyzed using various physical models to probe the refractive index, absorption coefficient, thickness, conductivity, crystallinity, defects, crystal characteristics, and optical nonlinearity of thin film materials.

Research in biomedical imaging focuses on the development of nuclear medicine imaging instruments for small animals, image processing, and biomedical applications. In visual ergonomics, experiments are conducted to investigate the effects of artificial lighting and display on visual performance and comfort, and to establish intelligent control models for lighting and display. In optical precision measurement, an interference fringe algorithm suitable for highly aberrated wavefronts is developed and experimentally verified.

RESEARCH INTERESTS:
Quantum optics is the study of the quantum properties of light fields and the interaction between light and matter. It encompasses topics in quantum physics, electromagnetism, and atomic and molecular optical physics. Furthermore, quantum optics plays a crucial role in current quantum technologies, such as all-optical quantum computing, quantum communication, and brain-based computing. Our laboratory will focus on leveraging quantum optics experimental techniques and theoretical research to explore important applications in quantum communication while addressing current technological challenges. Our research topics include optical quantum information processing, the preparation and measurement of quantum entangled light sources, all-optical quantum relay stations, and quantum key distribution protocols. These research topics utilize optical systems such as nonlinear optical materials, solid-state systems, and semiconductor lasers in their experiments. Furthermore, our work not only encompasses experimental research but also focuses on the development of theoretical models. On a theoretical level, we will investigate quantum optics, atomic and molecular optical physics, and quantum information theory. We believe that by integrating theoretical research and experiments, our work will contribute significantly to quantum technology and further our understanding of the nature of quantum mechanics.
