Research Interests:
Physics and Devices of Nanoscale Optoelectronic Conversion
Focusing on advanced, CMOS-compatible plasmonic and metallic nanostructured optoelectronic conversion devices, this track encompasses:
- Theoretical exploration of internal photoelectric conversion physical mechanisms within metals.
- Innovative design of optoelectronic devices.
- Numerical simulations across electromagnetic optics, radio frequencies (RF), and multiphysics—utilizing advanced numerical simulation software and programming such as COMSOL Multiphysics and the Finite-Difference Time-Domain (FDTD) method.
- Advanced electron-beam (e-beam) lithography and standard micro/nano device fabrication processes (including photomask design, photolithography, etching, dielectric and metallic layer deposition, annealing, and lift-off processes).
- Experimental measurements characterizing device optical properties, optoelectronic conversion efficiencies, high-speed modulation signals, and femtosecond laser pulse responses.
Since 2022, this domain has advanced toward exploring the theoretical limits of photoexcitation efficiency in nanometallic optoelectronic conversion using quasi-two-dimensional (quasi-2D) metals. This endeavor encompasses the design, fabrication, and characterization of related innovative devices, while leveraging near-infrared (near-IR) ultrafast optical measurement techniques to investigate the time-resolved transient behavior of these nanometallic optoelectronic conversion devices.

Integrated Surface Plasmon Optics
Dedicated to the design of innovative nanophotonic passive components based on subwavelength waveguides and hybrid surface plasmon waveguides, while simultaneously employing rigorous electromagnetic theory to analyze and investigate the underlying physical mechanisms of these devices.
Nanocrystal Optics
Investigation into the optical anisotropy of dielectrics within various crystal lattice systems at the nanoscale. By calculating the response of a finite number of periodically arranged atoms under external electric fields, this track constructs theories on polarizing and depolarizing factors within the dielectric tensor to understand and predict nanoscale properties such as isotropy, anisotropy, and optical birefringence.
