Course Objectives
This course aims to help students understand the basics of silicon
photonics, including the applications, device properties, and
fabrication processes. Students will realize the optical
functionalities of optical waveguides by numerical simulation.
Prerequisite
Textbook “Integrated Photonics” Pollock, C., & Lipson, M. (2003).
Topical Outline I. Introduction: Brief overview of silicon photonics
II. Optical Waveguides
III. Waveguide numerical modeling and simulation
IV. On-chip Lasers
V. Optical Modulators
VI. Photodetectors
VII. Integration and Packaging
VIII. Applications
