Pi-Gang Luan received his B.S. degree in Physics from National Cheng-Kung University in 1989, and his Ph. D. degree in Physics from National Tsing Hua University (Taiwan) in 1995. During the period in Tsing Hua and before his military service period, his research topic was about the exactly solvable models in statistical mechanics and a related mathematical structure call Yang-Baxter equation (YBE). His dissertation work dealt with the problem of constructing two-parameter quantum algebras by using the solution of YBE. In 1998, he worked in Acer Company as an EMI engineer from June to December. He then moved in the same year to National Central University and became a post-doctoral fellow there. In 2001, he further moved to National Chao-Tung University to continue his post-doctoral research career.
In his post-doctoral-fellow period (1998.12-2002.07), his research was mainly about the wave localization (Anderson localization) phenomena of classical waves in random media. From 2002 to 2007, he was an assistant professor in Institute of Optical Sciences (Latterly renamed as Department of Optics and Photonics) of National Central University, then been promoted as an associate professor. His current research interests include Metamaterials, Dispersive media, Transformation Optics, and Topological Photonics/Acoustics/Mechanics.

Current Research Areas
Most of the researches implemented by us are about the propagation characteristics of the electromagnetic and acoustic waves in artificial media. Specifically, we study all kinds of physics and engineering problems related to photonic crystals, sonic crystals, metamaterial and devices (such as hyperlens or invisibility cloak). I myself also do some researches about quantum systems and statistical mechanics.
