Institute of Optical Sciences was founded in 1982 and has constantly bred many outstanding people who have prominent contribution to both academic and industrial societies. In 2006, Department of Optics and Photonics (DOP) is formed by merging the parent institute and begins to offer the undergraduate program. The Department will have a brand new building to accommodate its teachers, staff, students and collaborators, thanks to the support from the Delta Electronics, Inc. The Department offers fundamental and advanced courses in its teaching program, putting emphasis on both research and practical applications. DOP has conducted very solid research in optics and continues to be at the forefront of photonics advances. The research covers a diversity of fields including optical engineering, optical design, optical thin film, optical testing, optical data processing, optical communication, solid state lighting, display technology, optical materials, micro and nano-optics and photonics, and laser, etc..
